What a wonderful museum! I have been to many galleries throughout the US and this is my favorite thus far. Tucked away in downtown Birmingham, it was very easy to get to. Let me start with admission. Free to the public and ever changing displays, this provides an invaluable asset to the community. All of the exquisite art is wonderfully displayed in a beautiful building. Staff is awesome. Very knowledgeable and welcoming. There's a great little cafe, The Juniper, reasonably priced with a yummy menu. I had the pleasure of having a great conversation with Ginger at the cafe. Thank you, Birmingham Museum of Art, for the lovely experience.

It's so wonderful that it's a free museum, and it's a lot bigger than you might think. I didn't realize before coming that the Disney exhibit costs $30! (But no surprises that something Disney would be overpriced!) I did greatly enjoy seeing it, and the rest of the collection is quite nice.

I think my favorite part of the regular collection is a Star Wars costume gallery by some local high school students - it was amazing!

Loved all the pieces that I was able to see. Beautiful work from 3 hundred years back to the present day. The museum was so large. I was amazed of the pieces I saw and the work the museum has put together to create the perfect setting for some art pieces.

Today we went to the Birmingham Museum of Art to see Heroes & Villains: The Art of the Disney Costume. It consisted of costumes from Disney live action movies, TV shows, and stage productions. Heros, princesses, and villains were all represented. There was also labeling that told you something about the designers and their challenges and inspirations. Included in the presentation was a short film that focused on the numerous times that Cinderella has been presented in various ways and the approach taken by each designer in creating the dramatic ball gown she wears with her famous glass slippers.

One of the attendants told us that each manikin was an exact replica of the actor that originally wore the costume, at least from the neck down.

I went for the Disney movies Costume exhibit. It was a fantastic display of more than 70 costumes. The museum also has a great collection of its own from Wedgewood to Southeast Asian Art.
