I came to see Dugan Aguilar’s exhibit but ended up experiencing so much more. I limited myself from taking too many photos because I actually wanted to be present to take in so much beautiful art, photography, and history that is connected to Oakland and surrounding areas. I appreciated the honest and transparent dialogues of Oakland’s history surrounding race and inequality, from the onset of the first colonizations of the Indigenous Peoples to the gentrification of neighborhoods that once housed thriving communities demolished by urbanization. I believe I spent 4- 5 hours in exploration of your space and left inspired.

This was an amazing experience! Maybe the most impressive museum in the Bay Area!

Starting from the basement floor there is a wonderful Natural History Museum with a GIGANTIC topographical map of California which I would have marveled over for hours if my friends hadn't dragged me away.

2nd level was the Anthropological History Exhibition

3rd Was one of the most enjoyable and least pretentious Art Galleria that I've ever experienced!

Lastly, it had a wonderful California Native Flora Garden ^÷^~

Part of the museum it's free on the first Sunday of the month. It's a little more focused on history than art but worth a look.
