I took a collection of rocks. 50% were somewhat identified by the resident geologists. She wanted a $35 fee to join the society to participate in rock polishing, rock cutting classes--mostly agates for jewelry. My gold was dismissed as iron pirate although collected in gold country; cinnabar/mercury was not identified although very common in Vallejo; serpentine & iron ore were misidentified; everything was identified as jasper or feldspar. She wouldn't let me put the bright red rock in the grinder however--i think it was lead? Not confirmed.

I love the gem shows. It's a great time and place for gift purchases and personal. It's very educational and a sight to see all the beautiful things nature and the art crafted treasures. Going once will get you hooked. It's a must see.

We stopped by to find out more about the club. The foreman of the day was very friendly and super informative. They have a lot of great lapidary equipment they will teach you how to use. I'm hoping to join so I can learn more!
