If you like off-the-beaten path AUTHENTIC experiences, then this is for you!
The food was delicious, and the lessons were informative, interactive, well planned and interesting. The pace was appropriate with time for our (many) questions. I appreciated the presenters' sincerity--they had a genuine interest in helping us learn about Navajo culture and traditions. I felt as though I had been welcomed into their home, NOT just some tourist!
This group is just starting out, and as they gain experience I am sure that any "hiccups" will be worked out.
We were visiting the Flagstaff, AZ area from Arkansas and had adjusted our clocks for the time change and Daylight Savings (AZ does not participate in Daylight Savings) and ended up being an entire hour late. They were so gracious and welcoming we were quickly put at ease.
We had our daughter and her friend with us. The 12-year-old friend was the first to jump in and volunteer to card wool, dance, and weave. She had a complete blast! Our shy but eye-rolling 13-year-old chose to watch and she listened to the history, traditions and lessons, but by the end of the experience was asking questions, laughing, and participating.
The drive out to Rough Rock passes through such beautiful country! The rock formations and colorful canyons and mountains rival the state and national parks.
What I would do differently: When originally planning our trip to the Grand Canyon, I chose a campground based on the GC only and so stayed near Flagstaff. This made the drive to the other attractions (Antelope Canyon, Indian Paintbrush, Monument Valley) very long. I would find lodging in NE AZ so that I could spend more time exploring more experiences like Indian Paintbrush.
