Very interesting historic site. Unfortunately there are no walking/hiking trails nearby although they do have hiking stick medallions and a stamp for the Arkansas State Park Club 52.

The courthouse doubles as the visitor center. It features some very interesting exhibits including a safe and vault used for Lawrence County tax collections. The park interpreter was extremely helpful giving us a brief rundown on some of the artifacts on display (how they were found and what they are). We also got a short explanation of a rivalry between Powhatan State Historic Site and the nearby Davidsonville State Historic Site (made the whole experience more interesting).

It's interesting to note that Powhatan might have faced a similar fate had they not had the bridge (no longer present).

Nice place with lots of history of Arkansas. You need to see Davidsonville State Park first since they are about 18 miles from each other.

We have been here several times and never could catch it open. Today we made it. It is a very historic building. They have several interesting exhibits. A lot of information is provided about the area. The jail is located nearby. Old day prisons were very brutal. This courthouse is a very impressive building from the highway. Stop in you will be impressed.

This state park is also very close to Lake Charles and Davidsonville State Parks so you can get 3 AR State Parks Passport stamps in one day. The young lady working there was very knowledgeable and pleasant. The old courtroom upstairs has the most stunning wood work! If one is into AR history or history in general, you definitely want to stop here!
