I had no idea that the first coal mine in Alabama was in Montevallo. This museum provides an interesting look into what coal mining was like in Aldrich. Lots of neat artifacts along with everyday period items. There's even a life-sized replica of a slope shaft that feels like you're walking into a mine.

I have been there on a couple of occasions. Once, I was bringing my nephews and recently I brought my granddaughters. They all seemed to enjoy the old company store and the mine exhibit.

There is some cool memorabilia. The owner knows the interesting history of the mine and the family that owned it.

I gave the museum 20$ for the two adults and four kids as the curator was not going to charge for the children. Otherwise, the sign says $5 for adults and $3 for children over 12.

It is a short visit and only a few minutes from Montevallo. It is worth a visit if you are passing through the Montevallo area.

My grandfather Henry Emfinger owns it. He has put his heart and soul into this museum he knows so many things about coal mining. It has been his dream for a long time to have this and share the thoughts and stories and facts about coal mining. If you'd like to know more please come by and enjoy yourselves.

It's a family owned attraction with items collected over the years. The family is knowledgeable about the mine. I would recommend it to anyone interested in the coal mine era.

I had work at a nearby house; however the museum was not labeled or I simply did not see a sign, GPS led me to believe it could be two or three different houses at that location/area.
