I lived in Bonita in the 1950s, until age 9. In 2014, I took a trip back and visited Bonita Museum & Cultural Center. My family had donated to them a painting of the historic Old Red Barn, and prior to my arrival I had e-mailed them that I was coming, and told them about some of my early history there. They promised me they would have that painting on display for me to see when I got there. I told them when I would arrive, but when I got there, they didn't have the painting out, the docent said she "couldn't find it", and they really weren't very interested in my disappointment.

Bonita had been my home town for nearly a decade when I was a child, and I remember passing by that Old Red Barn many times on our way into town and leaving it. When I visited the museum, fully expecting to see that wonderful painting, all they could offer were photographs of the barn, which was okay, but I wish they had kept their word to have that painting out for me to see. It would have meant a lot. I shall probably never have another opportunity to visit this area.

Evidently, they didn't consider it very important.

A very neat and informative museum to learn about the area’s past. The staffs were very friendly and knowledgeable. This a good place to spend an entire afternoon to take it slowly and browse through the arts and photos.

Truly enjoy showing my art at the Bonita Museum. Last night's reception was so encouraging with art fun for kids; a large ukelele band and a full room of Small Scale art offered for $100 or less.

Small, but it has a lot of interesting historical items and artwork from the local area. Additionally, it is located right next to the library so you can check that out as well.
