Wheelhouse is so much more than a clay studio! It’s a community for the creatively curious and curiously creative.

I started with a Clay Play session shortly after Wheelhouse opened and could not get enough! Four classes with amazingly talented, patient, friendly, and deeply knowledgeable teachers later, I joined the studio as a member.

The feel, the smell, the beauty of clay lodges deep into your soul at Wheelhouse. I find myself in this wonderful space basking deep in the flow, making friends, working through puzzles and personal challenges, laughing about all sorts of things, eating Hi-Chews and other treats, sharing lessons and techniques learned, and getting lost in conversation. Wheelhouse is a haven and a home and so much fun to boot.

I took a handbuilding class at wheelhouse and I’m now hooked on clay. I love the staff, members, classes/workshops, the SUPER CLEAN studio, and all the amazing glazes, clay, tools the studio offers. I’m a member now and love the community WHC has built. It’s nice to have a space to wind down when life is a bit stressful, and also a place to laugh and talk about random things to creative projects at the studio.

I started with a Clay Play then followed up with two six-week classes. Wheelhouse is supportive community of generous and compassionate people. There are many good studios in San Francisco, and Wheelhouse is where I chose to become a member.

Wheelhouse is awesome, I have taken four classes with the studio and have been a member for a couple years now. The owner and teachers are incredibly intentional in how the studio is setup and run. It is a space where if you show up and be respectful, you will in turn get to learn from the amazing members and grow with your fellow students!

I cannot recommend enough ?

I've been a member of the Wheelhouse Clay community for nearly a year, and it has profoundly reinvigorated my passion for clay. The quality of the classes is exceptional, with teachers who are super skilled at their craft and are incredibly nurturing and inspiring. The staff are exceptionally welcoming and inclusive, always eager to assist with any questions, ensuring a comfortable and supportive environment for all. What truly sets Wheelhouse apart, though, is its community vibe. From the first day, the welcoming members and staff have made me feel right at home. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore or reignite their passion for pottery.

I’ve been taking classes and enjoying the community at wheelhouse since 2022. I started with a clay play and then was just completely hooked. Every class I’ve taken has been taught by an instructor who was very attentive, knowledgeable and clear in their teaching style. I’ve also been impressed by the sheer variety of styles, tips, and techniques (there are just so many different ways to learn and do clay). One thing I noticed is that even during student open hours staff and even other students and members were always willing to help out or answer questions which really helped my learning process. When I’ve had to miss a class before the instructor has always been kind and willing to give me an overview/refresh on what I’ve missed. I was able to become a member when I felt ready (as in knowing enough about how to do my own projects) and have felt even more welcomed since. The old studio on divis was great but this new location is so spacious with more natural light. Between the space, the staff and the whole community here this really has become my “third place”.

This wheelhouse location is a gorgeous evolution of the original studio on divis, with more light, more space, but the same mindful approach to ceramics. I became a member of this studio after 4 consecutive class sessions because I liked being around my classmates and the dedicated teachers. As a member, my passion for ceramics exploded. Alden and her staff fostered an environment of trust and mutual respect where I could grow my craft and artistic voice— enough to produce my own solo gallery show. Wheelhouse has given me opportunities, connections, and skills that have changed my life. I can’t wait to see what energy the new students bring to this space!

I’ve taken several classes at Wheelhouse — colored clay, flameware, an intermediate class, and special artist workshops. Each class has been such a fun way to grow in my techniques and confidence with clay! All the teachers have always been so supportive and willing to help with all my questions. They’re all incredible artists who have such a depth of knowledge and respect for the craft.

The new space is also gorgeous and light filled. And it’s always clean! You can tell all the members care a lot because they take care of the space so well ✨

This is a place built with intention, and it shows in every little detail. I find when I come here that the work I make is more thoughtful, because I feel inspired being here. The energy of this community truly nurtures you — as an artist and as a human ?
