I enjoyed this space all to myself. Old elegant home, peaceful pond and beautiful aging picnic tables. Pack some food and relax with a book on a sunny offseason day.

About a half mile from the Mission, General Vallejo's home is part of the nominal Mission price and you can either walk or drive, which my wife and I did. The Gothic Victorian mid 1800's home is beautifully maintained and is open for you to explore and takes you back to what life was like for the General and his family. A member of the Park Service was on hand to share some of the history of the home and other buildings on site as well as a turtle pond and grape vines growing accross the street. In front of the home an American flag flies, but the Bear Flag is absent because the family member turning the home over to the Park Service stipulated that since General Vallejo almost lost his life in prison after the Bear Flag Revolt, the Bear Flag was not to be flown here.

Definitely worth stopping by! Turns Vallejo of the town and the street in SF into a real person. Items and rooms were not well labeled but it was interesting nonetheless.

Really enjoyed this historic home. Well laid out and a step back in time. You get to visit the home on your own and at your own pace. The grounds are lovely. The Chalet museum next door in worthwhile as well. All this for a $3.00 entry which also get you into Mission in downtown Sonoma. The house had a ton of woodpeckers flying about often pecking into the house. Absolutely worth a stop! There are vineyards across the street.

This was an interesting history to see his home and learn the history of the general and his family. You can go inside the house and see the decorated rooms. Walk the grounds as you can see how the General had a natural spring that he made into the Sanoma first water company. There are other buildings on site to see also.
The 3.00 is good to see three different attractions in the area.

I loved this historic place. Beautiful historic houses in a beautiful scenery. The front staff was welcoming. They explained some historic facts and gave us an overview of the place. I highly recommend walking from downtown to this tucked-in place to get a full sense of Sonoma’s history and landscape.

Toured the home with a docent. It was very interesting, a beautiful house and grounds with great history. A must in between wine sipping on the Plaza.
