An absolute must see museum tucked away in Rocket City. Huntsville is famous for having its Space Camp (at least locally in the south) and this is next door open to the public. They have some fun rides, a decent cafeteria, some static displays of old military hardware including some of the first nuclear capable missiles and a space shuttle test bed all of which is cool. The Jewel of the collection though the thing that makes this museum worth a detour off I65 on your road trip is the full size authentic Saturn 5 rocket suspended above you inside the main building. It's absolutely mind boggling. The displays and information go over the whole story of how we got to the moon with dozens of unique artifacts. Original space suits, the maneuvering unit used on the first space walk. V2 rocket engines a lunar lander a return capsule a freaking moon rock but nothing competes with that monster of a rocket that could have produced millions of pounds of thrust sitting right above you. Oh and there's another standing tall outside. Seriously go check it out. Allow for at least 3 hours probably 4 to see everything if you are moving at a good clip. It's also pretty friendly for even very small kids as they have an outdoor playground and a small indoor playground right underneath the Saturn 5. Parking is free as well.

My first time visiting here. I purchased tickets online, so we went in without a map or understanding the flow or layout. First building did not provide a clear understanding for how to approach all of the exhibits. Also, it looked rather worn and in need of updating.
Only when I asked for assistance was I pointed to the outside exhibits (seriously cool) and then to the Saturn 5 building. THIS WAS OUTSTANDING!!! I would go back just to see this part again.

Fantastic place and very reasonably priced. Lots of history here. Was awesome to see the Saturn V up close, especially since my grandfather was a designer of stage 2! Well worth the trip and would definitely recommend to everyone.
