Wow so very disappointed! I tried to visit this museum today. I wanted to visit so badly that I gave them a call to make sure they were open. The lady that I spoke to at 10:30 am said they would be open until 1:00 pm. Since it had been awhile since I had been in Mobile we had trouble finding the building but did arrive around 11:45 am and guess what? THEY WERE CLOSED! I was so looking forward to viewing all the display's and seeing the history that was available. I am very disappointed and would think that if someone called they would have had the courtesy to try to hang around thinking that person would show up! With this kind of service it is amazing that anyone gets to visit this place.

I've frequented many of the African American Museums across the nation. Mobile Alabama's edition is by far the best for a city of it's size. Moreover, this Museum compares to other ventures in much larger cities. My wife and I were touring the deep south during our 34th wedding anniversary; we often visit places of historical significance. National African American Archives and Museum has artifacts, photos, letters, rare art-work, and other priceless memorabilia. The staff and founder were very helpful and knowledgeable.

Amazing collection of artifacts. Tastefully done exhibits of the difficult subjects. Be prepared to get the free tickets 7 months in advance - all for crowd control. So much to see.

I would love to be able to actually go in and see the library.
I love the idea that there is such thing. Unfortunately, it was closed indefinitely for renovation.
Sometimes phones answered, sometimes not.
