I've taken 3 rounds of classes at Artillery (2 beginner, 1 intermediate) and also have been a member for a year or two. It's a really amazing place and I'm so glad I landed here for pottery. The classes are small (4-6 people) so you get a lot of hands on attention. This also allows the instructors to constantly move back and forth between watching and helping the students and providing demos. I've gone to other studios with larger classes and the instructor might do all the demos at the beginning of class and for me, it's hard to remember. The studio focuses on environmental sustainability as well, which sets it apart from other studios. They have done a lot to connect to the Mission and be a part of the neighborhood. The other students and members are all friendly and if I'm ever stuck on something, there's usually someone around willing to think it through, give advice, etc. It is more than just a place to take lessons--it is a community.

Hands down the best ceramics studio in San Francisco! Amazing community, great instructors, and a friendly environment. The garden out back is an awesome place to hang out too 🙂

I took the 5 week Handbuilding classes. The instructor and owner Kelly is one of the coolest people I’ve met in the city and I had so much fun with the course. I made a lot of pieces that I will treasure! I especially love the vibe of the space and the emphasis on sustainability and care towards the earth.

We love artillery! Found out about this place through a friend who does more serious work in the studio, but I have been coming for a couple months to the family clay play mornings with my preschooler! We have so much fun and have learned a lot about making simple hand built objects. My kiddo is so excited about a fairy table and owl she's made on almost all on her own, and seen through the process of building, firing, "painting", and firing again. It's been such a nice time to connect with other families, share some tea in the lovely backyard garden, and do something creative together.

Artillery is not like other ceramic studios I’ve been to in SF. They are SO friendly and the community they have there is unmatched! Many studios can feel very “sterile” where Artillery is so welcoming and members are willing to help or even just chat with you!

I took a class here and I never left. They are the perfect place to create and make friends.
They often host member potlucks and fire circles which really brings everyone together.

Don’t waste your time at other studios, Artillery is where it’s at!

Oh - & did I mention dog friendly! 😍

I just moved back to the city and wanted to try a new experience. I found the hand building series after doing a wheel throwing “try me” class. I didn’t know what to expect as I’ve never done any ceramics in my life. At the end of the series I left with good memories, amazing hand built pieces that adorn my home and ultimately new friends. The studio is a great place for community, creativity and fun. Anthony, Summer and Kelly were so helpful throughout my experience at the studio. I am definitely going back to try other offerings!

Booked a team-building event with Artillery, and we had a fantastic time! They were super helpful when organizing - their guidance made it easy to find a plan suited my team's schedule and personalities - and the session itself was fun, flexible, and very chill.

Booked a single class for an anniversary celebration. The workshop is very cute and had quality clay, tools, and potter wheels. But overall our experience was pretty bad due to poor instruction and time management.

lt felt so short and we didn’t even get to keep our pieces, which should be noted prior to booking, as it defeated the purpose of me choosing this place. There was a sub last minute and her teaching style wasn’t ideal. She went through the entire process before we could even touch the clay. This just caused information overload, especially for those that have never thrown. It left us with around 20 minutes to actually throw, which by then we forgot majority of what she attempted to teach us. It promptly ended at the 1.5 hour mark, so the rest of the time was spent cleaning, which I get, but ruined the experience.

For the price paid, amount of time actually spent throwing, on top of not being able to keep your pieces, it’s not worth to book here.
