Rooflesss Painters is more than a painting “class” it’s an art experience. No matter your skill level you will be transformed into an artist with Julio and Jen’s guidance. The assignments are current, contemplative and challenging. The information is timeless, researched and rewarding. I have not missed an opportunity to paint every Friday with them, and you shouldn’t either.

I encourage you to visit their website and contact Julio. In lieu of painting in public during the Covid19 pandemic, Roofless is hosting weekly Friday webinar painting sessions via Zoom. Every week is a different theme to paint and isn’t just a group painting session. Julio and Jen present art examples from historical and/or present day artist works. So you get instruction, learn some art history, paint together via Zoom platform and follow up conversation on Tuesdays.

I have been with Roofless Painters for years and have enjoyed participating in many of the events celebrating Los Angeles, but art classes during the pandemic with the amazing teacher Julio have been a lifesaver for me . The teaching comes from many angles including the webinars of painting in real time (or to view later) pre-webinar information including photos of related art works, and post webinar zoom sessions with more technical aspects of painting technique and supplies covered. They just added a second webinar of open studio time for whatever you happen to be working on. It's a friendly and supportive community to be a part of. Jen is very helpful and friendly, always on hand for any questions you may have. Whether you are a seasoned artist or a brand new beginner there is a lot to gain from Roofless Painters!

This week's class was an observation of ceilings. I love how Julio is always thinking outside the box to come up with unusual subjects for us to explore. In addition to this being an opportunity to take on an unlikely subject, Julio added that these days we are more often than not, looking down. How true that is! Our phones are masters at diverting our attention and taking time away. One of the things I love about this class is the opportunity to focus my attention on the painting. It's a form of meditation that I love, far away from my phone and other distractions. I always feel better for having done it.

Great class during these pandemic times - tuning in via Zoom and painting while getting tips and inspiration from a real pro - Julio - and getting better at painting from the regularity of the weekly classes. He also offers 'studio time' and helpful 30 minute mini classes on aspects of color mixing or design. Sign up and take the plunge into painting!

This online painting class is intimate as well as professional . The wonderful teacher narrates his own process, while guiding us through our own. The whole experience is nourishing, challenging, educational, inspiring! I am grateful that the practical/ technical aspect is well-monitored by a helpful ( and delightful)co-host; we students are off-camera and muted until the end, when we may engage in feedback of our work.

We requested to host a virtual NYU alumni event from Roofless Painters and Julio/Jen. They were flexible, great to work with, and made an effort to connect with each of the alumni that attended. We learned a lot from the session and would definitely host another event with Roofless Painters!
