Amazing, heartbreaking, educational breathtaking experience one remarkable place to visit. Came to Mobil for my in-laws' family reunion. The Clotilda Exhibit is one to remember. Staff was warm and welcoming.

This state of the art, contemporary, historical enterprise is befitting the story it narrates. The artifacts, paintings, and charts are beautifully displayed. The chronology of events begins the story in Africa and stretches across the Atlantic to the shores of Mobile Alabama. In addition the audio presentations in African voices, narrating the very human side of the story, is a feature that adds to the authenticity of this heretofore forgotten piece of history. The building is clean and functional. The staff is efficient, knowledgeable and especially friendly. The cost is just $15.00 and the products as well are reasonably priced. I highly recommend a visit sooner than later.

I went to visit as part of an outing with my job. I wanted to visit ever since I heard it was opening. Africatown is so full of history and this place captures it. This place is a museum dedicated to the last enslaved people who came to this country. You can follow the exhibit on your own with the use of remote which as a speaker. The exhibit follows Cudjoe Lewis from his home in what is modern day Benin to Mobile. You get to understand his feelings about being taken away from from his home and being forced to work in a far away place. The accounts heard and read through the self guided tour make you understand how cruel the institution of slavery was. Throughout the exhibit you are able to see artifacts from the time including newspaper articles and chains of the enslaved. This was a unique experience and one that everyone should have.

Very interesting and eye-opening information. It transfixes you to different time and struggle. A sense of longing and belonging. Of wanting to go home and left without that option, create a home. Worth the visit, to get lost for an hour in a past long forgotten, leaves you appreciative of the fortitude of our forefathers.

I cannot begin to express how moving and informative this exhibit was and how glad I am to have experienced it. . You will have every heartstring pulled and tugged as you make your way through the journey from Africa to Mobile Alabama. It is presented through storytelling which makes you feel like you are sitting at the feet of the storyteller. I couldn't recommend it enough. I would give it 10 stars if I could. The people that work there were friendly and professional.

After watching the Netflix documentary on the Cotilda slave ship, my curiosity was heightened to learn more about this subject. My visit to the Africatown Heritage House Museum was extremely educational. For me the exhibit shed light on this horrible story of how people were brought to Mobile AL on the Clotilda from their native lands in Africa illegally, after slavery was abolished. More importantly, the museum masterfully documents the resilience of the enslaved people and how they survived the hardships they faced. This is such a profound history lesson to glean during the current times we live in. Please make it your business to visit this museum. It will be worth your time.
