I took the Intro to Woodworking course and had an amazing time! The instructors, Nana and Brandon, were incredibly kind, patient and knowledgeable and made everyone feel great about the experience.

We all created our very own cutting board from a selection of three types of wood and used a jointer, planer, table saw, band saw, sanding belts and orbital sanders. The instruction was clear, concise and safe and made me want to get into woodworking even more.

The price is a great value for what you learn and because you get a great cutting board at the end. I wholeheartedly recommend this great woodshop!

An awesome space to learn woodworking! The instructors are unpretentious, kind and helpful. Whether you're completely green or have some previous woodworking experience, it's a great space to learn and/or refine your skills. I have taken a couple courses already and will continue to take courses as they're provided.

I attended the Intro to Woodworking class and I had the best time. I thought, what the heck, it’s just a board, right? Well, yes, but through finishing a piece of lumber into a cutting board, we learned how to safely use many different machines, which was great! Our instructors were cool and chill, the environment was beautiful and had amazing air flow, and the shop was clean. I look forward to going back and making more stuff!

This place is an absolute treasure! I have taken two of their long classes (cabinet making and table making) and enjoyed every minute of it. Each class starts with a clear but engaging explanation of the project you are able to undertake and you spend some time understanding how to design you eventual piece.

Typically after the first session you get to select from a few wood species (I picked Cherry for the cabinet and Ash for the table). If you want something else, the owner Kirtan can work with you to put together a package. During the second session, we rough milled the lumber. This is really where I noticed how special Allied Woodshop is. They take the time to teach you how to properly use the machines without doing the work for you. They let you do all your own work to mill the wood while supporting you the entire time. If you get stuck, they help you troubleshoot. These are the skills that make you better at the craft. I appreciate that they are ready and willing to help you patiently while letting me enjoy the process of working the wood. The pictures posted with this review are things I made and that makes me proud.

I really like how the sessions are laid out and timed well. It was fun making progress each time while not feeling rushed. The subsequent sessions where you finish mill, cut to final size, join, assemble, square and finish were all very instructional. Each time I learned insider knowledge that I have shared with my other hobbyist friends.

The main draw for me is the instructors and owner. I worked with four different instructors across the two classes and their patience, humor and clarity were so comforting. I came away feeling so confident in my newfound abilities and excited to learn more and reach their level. Meanwhile, the owner Kirtan is so easy to work with and has created an amazing learning environment and a safe and clean shop.

All in all, I have already signed up for two more classes and intend to keep coming back to Allied Woodshop. This place is one of the greatest hidden gems in Los Angeles and I hope it doesn't stay hidden for long.

I took the "Furniture Making: Tables" class at Allied Woodshop and I'm very happy with the results. Not only I got to take home a table I designed and built with the guidance of the instructors but gained valuable knowledge on woodworking and got to hang out with nice people. The instructors, Kirtan and Lauren, know what they are doing and are very passionate about woodworking which transfers into a great atmosphere at the shop. They also offered the option to go to the lumber yard and learn how to select the wood for the project.
The shop itself is very nice, they have all the necessary tools /equipment and everything is really organized. It also has great views of downtown LA which is rare for a workshop. I recommend this class to anyone interested in wood working and look forward to taking another class there my self!

Such a wonderful experience learning to steam bend pieces of ash to form my own pendant lamp. Kirtan was so knowledgeable and patient, guiding us through the techniques. Already can't wait to return next week and finish realizing my design.

There are so many classes offered! Go support this local, woman-owned hidden gem.

I took the Women/Trans/Non-Binary Intro to Woodworking class and had an awesome experience. Incredibly inclusive and non-threatening, entry-level course. The instructors were super friendly and knowledgable. Safety was the top priority. The shop is beautiful, and while it is on the 10th floor of an old building in DTLA with no A/C, it added a lot of charm to the experience, and the cross breeze and city views were top notch. I love the cutting board I made and look forward to taking more classes at Allied.
