From its beautiful and diverse cultural history to its influence on modern art and skate board design, to marine biology and bioluminescence, and hands-on family friendly exhibits about earthquakes & its volcanic coast line… truly memorable visit. There’s also a mini planetarium- but get there early for good seats in the back. Also, make time to break between exhibits at the Muse Cafe as well - definitely recommend the Breve with Hazelnut and their super chocolatey Brownie!

This museum has something for everyone. Active, hands on stuff for kids or still-curious adults, fine art, indigenous art, science and history. Our group of 4 adults was there for 4-5 hours. We did stop in the cafe for french fries, salad and beers to break up the day. We had fun, saw beautiful things and learned a lot about Alaska and its people.

Go. Learn. The respectful and extensive exhibits were so thought provoking and our crew called this the highlight of our day. The art exhibit on the 3rd floor was an incredible blend of traditional and modern styles, and had such a range of emotional expressions. The second floor curated artifacts and sacred indigenous items blended the mundane and the holy, the unique and the quotidian in ways which really harkened to the living cultures represented. Go ready to be awed, humbled, grateful and to learn much. Stay for the beauty.

Also, the staircase was ridiculously beautiful.

It’s a good museum, though not a great one. I wouldn’t really recommend friends to come here if they visit Anchorage.

Overall it’s up to the American standard - quite clean, equipped with activities and even a reading room catering to children, art exhibit, science corner, cafe, and a planetarium. And of course a gift shop.

However when you look closer into the offerings, you’d start to question the quality of the showings. For one, why is the Anchorage museum showing how comics are made? For two, most disappointingly for me personally, why is the $6 additional charge planetarium show just a bear video from 20 years ago? I would expect the showing in a *planetarium* taking advantage of the equipment and setting of a *planetarium* somehow, but nope. Also, half of the art is quite political. I was hoping for more natural history exhibits that are unique to Alaska. Not that the messagings are bad, but it gets repetitive and somewhat preachy, at least I feel so.

Maybe it’s just the timing I came visit. In any case, I don’t think it was worth $25 per person.

This place is gorgeous, it’s well designed and well kept. The staff is also great. I got lucky with my visit, there was live music out on the lawn and food trucks. The exhibits are well thought out and very educational. Lots of art, lots of artifacts and a great overall environment. The only negative i’d have to say is the gift shop; the prices for very simple things seemed very high.

We spent 3 hours here and could have stayed longer! Our kids loved the hands on exhibits, and my husband and I especially enjoyed the second floor. The Northern Lights show at the planetarium was the next best thing to seeing the real ones.

I loved the mix of modern, pop, and classical art. The museum is very interactive for adults and children. It offers something for everyone. My favorite was the Brown Bear biography and documentary.

This is a great museum for a rainy day activity. There are interesting exhibits on Alaska and its history. There are also fantastic hands on things for kids to play with and learn on the ground floor.
Definitely recommend for kids around 10
