As working parents, we really valued the benefits of the ASAP program, for students to attend after school, but The Town has failed to properly handle a significant situation, even after calling and expressing vital concern with the coordinator of the program. The ASAP staff is underage, unprofessional, share other children's confidential information to parents like guardianship , and document false narratives regarding young black children. On numerous occasions, I've encourted them gossiping about me or my child in a huddle after an incident, and calling my child their bestie, then getting offended when they horse play with them. When I informed the supervisor of my concern with the documentation regarding an incident involving my child at the program, she advised that they didn't have visual proof (ex: a picture of injury) of the accusations being mentioned of my child, but if they did, that would be confidential. Staff members verbally tell stories one way and document differently. She also advised she would do an investigation and follow up with me, but never called back; it's 2 ¹/² weeks later and I've called 3x (& left voicemails), since our conversation. However, my child has asked to not return to the program, since "staff are being mean for no reason". I am a reasonable person and wanted to being understanding that nothing is perfect and just appreciate that my child's in a safe place until we can get them after work, but I can't. My stomach aches everytime I know they're there with people that mislead them, lie to them, and don't value my concerns as a parent. I was previously told that they exaggerate the severity of incidents with black children, and didn't want to believe it, but after seeing the experience with my child and the lack of interest from supervision to provide us any update or resolution, I'm starting to believe it.
