Learned a lot about the construction of Balboa Island and the celebrities who moved on it. The museum is made up of mostly picture displays and not many artifacts so you can walk through pretty quickly.

I took my 5 and 7 1/2 year-old grandsons here for a field trip to learn about Newport Harbor. The older one loved the scavenger hunt and there were hands-on things for the five year-old to explore. I think this would be a better museum for a bit older children, but we still had a great time, we’re going come back in a few years for sure. Best of all it’s free.

When visiting the island, a visit to the Museum is a must. It's small but has a rich collection of all-things Balboa Island. Admission is free, although donations are greatly appreciated.

It's run by volunteers who are happy to answer any questions about the museum or the island itself. They have a piano on display, and if you're a good pianist, they may let you play. A local gentleman stops by and plays it randomly with permission. He seems like a lovely man who is very talented.

Go learn some interesting facts about the Island and support a great cause.

Small yet cute FREE museum with wonderfully charming staff! They have a nice gift shop but the museum section isn’t large. There was cool info about Balboa Island, Shirley Temple and more. You probably won’t spend more than 15 minutes in the museum.

HOWEVER! I noticed an empty storefront down the street that said: Coming soon: The Balboa Island Historical Museum... so maybe they’re moving soon and will have more room!

I never give FREE museums less than 4 stars, because anything they offer is gravy. Definitely check this out when strolling down the strip!

This free museum is inside a store and well worth a visit. The exhibits tell the story of Balboa Island and some of its inhabitants from the very beginning. Well done.
