Top National Place!!!.... you NEED to come here, been a kid, adults, or any type of person would see this as one of the most interesting places of the whole country, period.
This place is as big that I recommen to visit for 3 days if you want to get as most details as possible....demos are a Plus, art on the store are amazing.
The make it yourself is not as they say...in some of the room you do it yourself, in others, they do everything and you just blow, I understand, working with glass take long time to get experience, so choose your pod carefully.
Lunch area good but too cold.
History is awesome!!!..you'll learn lot.
Science area it was my favorite.
I recommends this BIG!!!

What an amazing place!! The museum itself is very interesting. They have current exhibits (showcasing different artists) and permanent exhibits with many historical pieces. Hopefully the pictures do these some justice. There is also the Corning Studio - a place where you can actually participate in making something out of glass (assisted by the professionals of course). Also spent some time at the gift store, which was extensive and has some incredible pieces of art. The museum has a demonstration hot shop where you can watch the professionals in action. There is free parking available as well as a shuttle that runs to downtown Corning. The last picture is the pendant I made at the Studios.

We were in the Finger Lakes area and repeatedly heard recommendations to visit the Corning Museum of Glass if possible. So we did. The road signs and directions are clearly marked, making it easy to find parking (free) and entry to the museum. Timed demonstrations of glass making, blowing and characteristics are ongoing throughout the day in different exhibit wings. We enjoyed learning about optics and 35 centuries of glass making. There is an extensive gift shop of glasswork and a large restaurant. Seriously, 3 to 5 hours might be enough. We were wonderfully blown away by the museum and the art & history of glass.

We stopped at the welcome center to get information to the CMOG. Tons of parking when we arrived mid-day. They had free shuttle to the museum every 20 minutes and when we arrived, the shuttle just left. The lady told us it was a 4-minute walk to the museum and just follow the red line on the floor. We decided to walk and it was indeed a 4-minute walk. A definite MUST VISIT!

I had passed Corning many times but never managed to stop for the museum if which I had hear many great things.

I was surprised by the size and sheer number of displayed objects. I quickly realized that the 2-3h we had carved out for this stop on our trip was not going to be enough.
I liked that there is sections with contemporary art, functional art, a temporary exhibition, the hot shop, etc. The current exhibition with glass work from the last 3500 years is amazing.

Note: your tickets are valid for two consecutive days. So if you stay in the area, you can split your visit over two days.

Because of our time constraints we did not watch one of the live demonstrations. But we will be back.

Follow the red line from the parking lot and see the demos. Make some glass. We could have stayed all day and go back again … great museum.

I am a glass nerd! The museum has beautiful displays of artistic glass pieces, but they have the innovation center showing glass in commercial applications.
