What an incredibly wonderful secret, hidden in plain sight. I’ve loved four miles away from the Elkhorn Slough Reserve for over fifty years and have never stepped foot inside. Why did I wait? Why did I waste so many precious years not enjoying the beauty and serenity? I’ll never know. But I am so glad that today, I decided to take my three year old toddler out for a walk to burn some energy. Burn some, we did.

If you’re just into fresh air and exercise, you’ll love it. If you’re I to bird watching or nature photography, you’ll love it. If you want to learn about the Slough’s ecosystem and animals, you’ll love it. If you’re allergic to beauty and awe, you’ll hate it.

Sincerely, I’m not even sure I want to post this review because I’d love for this absolutely 100% free hidden jewel remains so. But God didn’t make beauty like this for just a handful of people to enjoy.

There are picnic areas and even restrooms along the trails. So there’s no excuse not to make your day better and visit Elkhorn Slough Reserve.

A quaint place and definitely hidden gem. Walking trails are fairly easy and the views are great! Staff was friendly and the park is fairly clean. Lots of wildlife and not a lot of people (just the way we like it 😊)

Returned again to check out some of the other trails, and down to the water's 💦 edge. Enjoyed the peaceful walk.

Very nice Slough, not crowded and easy trails. Went at low tide, lots of birds at a distance. Will be back to check out other trails and high tide perspective.

Great place to hike! There are a couple of different trails with different sights and animals. See the park's website for the different sights.

We did the South Marsh Loop Trail and highly recommend it! We did it clockwise and stopped by Hummingbird Island. Most of the trail is stroller friendly, apart from the train tracks and stairs by Hummingbird Island. The north side of trail is not shaded but the south side is mostly shaded. There is a slight elevation change at the beginning and end of the loop.

There are many easy short hike loops. This place is very open and create peaceful feeling. Some trail path through water. So it might be wise to check a ride of the day because someplace will be under water during high tide. At Humming bird loop trail, you can see a train goes through and some artistic object someone created.
