For a base so small as Fort Irwin, it has a pretty large Commissary. The Commissary may seem small once you enter, but it contains divided sections that house different products. Unfortunately this Commissary has succumbed to the “you have to pay for the plastic bags”, so be sure to bring your own bags or get ready to pay extra towards the end of your shopping trip. On a side note, please add some more Asian/Korean products!

It’s a commissary, on a post, in the middle of the desert. They have everything you need and some of what you want. The staff is the usual mixture of friendly, but impatient. The carts are in the parking lot corrals and the hand baskets are hidden by self-checkout. They charge for bags. Out of anything you can expect, expect to go to the commissary.

This is a great commissary but I specifically want to give a shout out to the bakery/deli department.

The women who work there have a great attitude and have been sooooo helpful!

They are fast, efficient, and have a wonderful demeanor.

I especially wanted to highlight a woman named Bryanna, who; on our friends' birthday - helped us to pick, customize, and decorate a cake.

She created a fantastic design and just completely made our day!

Again, I can't say it enough. The attitude was amazing and I really appreciate the willingness and helpfulness of this department.

Thanks again!

The employees are super jealous of war veterans and Federal Civilian Employees. They try to treat them like they don't matter.

First let me say that the commissary was nice and the people working there were great. However, let's talk about the gate guard and the security office. We drove from barstow to go to the commissary. My husband had been out there a couple weeks before. Gate guard told him he did not need to register the car, just show his veteran ID. Great. So I went with him this trip. Gate guard asked for my ID also and then said we had to go back and get me a pass to go on post. He did not explain why and left us to move on to the next car. I was confused as thus has never happened at any post in the state. Went to the front security building and the line was outside back to the parking lot. Husband and I are both older and can't walk without canes but, we got in line to wait. There was an mp there and my husband asked if they only had one line as most of the folks were civilian truck drivers with supply delivery and we had by then been out in the heat for more than half an hour. Mp says no. One line. Then the line split and trucks were all seen first. We were in line two hours! Outside in the heat. Then when we did get in I asked the man at the desk why we had to do this at all. I shopped at commissary all over the world. After my husband left Army service we both understood I had to go with him. But he's now a disabled veteran with commissary privileges so what's the problem today. Told that now we're civilians. Really? AND thar he was giving me this pass good for 30 days "to be nice" as it should be every time we go on post. When he was active duty I could shop when he wasn't even on the same continent? But recognizing family members and the fact that we're married and I supported my husband and the army all those years? That sacrifice only matters if you're active duty. I left that day with zero pride in my husband's and my sacrifice for our country. I always took it seriously but seems ft. Irwin could care less now that we're old. Just a couple of old, useless civilians. You should be ashamed of the way you treat dedicated veterans and their families

It has all the food staples a family needs to sustain itself. It is comparable to any grocery store. The staff there are cheerful and ready to assist. There is a deli inside, and you can purchase freshly made sushi rolls. It is adjacent to the post exchange, near the gas station, and other shopping stores.
