We had a BLAST here to celebrate Juneteenth! The vendors were amazing and we enjoyed supporting the local small businesses. There were activities for the kids and museum plaques to read for the adults. We will be back next year. Thank you to ALL that participated in the event.

History has been an interest of mine since I was a kid and Black History in particular. This place is so rich with Black History that I could have spent several days there touring around. The display of knowledge of the past experiences that black people and other people of color had to endure, antiques, artwork, etc., was simply amazing! I felt an immediate connection with the past and could sense some of the suffering as if I was there. After having lived in Phoenix for over 18 years but had never toured the museum, Ouch, that hurt! #NotGood

Take a few minutes out of your precious time, this is a MUST-VISIT Often Type Place right here In Phoenix, AZ!

Still a work in progress. Lots of good artifacts, but need more descriptions (however, that's being worked on) Very friendly staff and great future expansion plans

Being a White woman born and raised in the South (NC), I saw and experienced firsthand how our Black sisters and brothers were treated during segregation. I can’t begin to imagine what it was like to be Black during those evil years of slavery. Having only recently learned through Ancestry that I am 1% Black, I never experienced being shunned and denigrated because of it. It has given me many things to contemplate and to be thankful for.

A few months ago, I was privileged to visit the George Washington Carver Museum and Cultural Center in Phoenix. Having been raised during segregation, I perhaps know more than the average American about this disgraceful period in American history. As such, I am thankful for the opportunity through this museum to learn more about the Black side of my heritage. Dr. Matthew C. Whitaker, PH.D, and his wonderful staff, graciously led a group of Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Seniors through the museum, shared it history, and the dreams for the Center’s future.
