My mom and I took a spin class in April on a lovely Saturday afternoon. The Studio is located at the heart of downtown San Jose. This is a 2-hour class and seems reasonably priced at $99 including all supplies and final glazing costs. This format is truly a great way to introduce beginners to using pottery wheel. We made 2 items using wheel each - a cup and a bowl. I am hoping to be back for other classes and learn something new such as clay building. Overall, I enjoyed my experience with Higher Fire Studio.

Edit 06/02:
The cup and bowl are glazed and were ready to pick up 4 weeks after the workshop. The final glazed items look incredible and professional. 5-star again to the entire process.

Absolutely love this studio and the Just Try It 6 week pottery class! Stacey was the main instructor, he was very clear in his explanations and demos, enthusiastic about our work and helpful to solve pitfalls as we were learning. He has so much knowledge about clay, asking him questions always led to discovering fun things about clay work. The two assistants were also super helpful and experienced. Will definitely be going back for more classes! 100% recommend classes with Stacey and discovering how to throw clay!

We took their 2 hour spin class, this is a well constructed class. They'll help you sculpt a cup and a bowl.
They provide all the materials/tools needed and also glaze the final product. We get to choose the color of the final product which will be ready in about 4 weeks.

I recently attended a wheel pottery class at Higher Fire, and it was simply amazing! The instructor was fantastic, answering all our questions with patience and expertise. It turned out to be a wonderful stress-reliever.

The instructor's guidance was top-notch. They demonstrated each step clearly and helped us individually. They made sure we understood the techniques and concepts, making the learning process enjoyable and accessible.

The class was well-organized, and the instructor provided helpful tips to improve our skills. The pottery wheel provided a therapeutic experience, allowing us to unwind and focus on creating beautiful pottery. It was incredibly calming and rejuvenating.

I was excited to start pottery, but my experience with the instructor was disappointing. The older Asian man treated white people nicely but neglected others, which felt racist and made the first class very uncomfortable. Also his way of teaching is not encouraging, feels like the teacher from movie Whiplash, def not suitable for beginners. I still love pottery, but I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone due to the instructor's behavior. Or simply avoid this particular instructor.

I’m a firing member at Higher Fire for 6 months. I love this studio so much! All staffs and members are friendly and professional. They have various kinds of clays and glazes you can play with. They fire huge kilns multiple times a week. And most importantly it’s cone 10. 🔥

Great employees, very friendly, knowledgeable, and informative, and tons of resources for members to use in pursuit of their art. Good variety of clays sold here (~$30, includes firing fee... all cone 10) and glazes available for use (including raku glazes). They have a beautiful wall showing all the glaze overlap combinations that is very well organized and executed. Coffee/tea area with a fridge for members to use as they please. Restroom available as well. Lots of wheels for throwing and table space for hand building. They have waxes and other products like shellac available to members. Raku firing is available on request. Lockers are also available with a fee. Membership is a very reasonable price for everything they provide.
