An expansive, really unexpected park! There are many different routes to walk, it is dog friendly, and was one of my favorite spots to see foliage this year. Especially loved the dock-like water walking path. Truly want to go here again so I can peek inside the mansion (as of last week, it is only open for tours a few times a week, and Monday is not one of those days). Totally free!

Smithville Mansion transports you into the historic past of this beautiful town. Located within the Smithville Park this treasured monument to the foundational roots of the village contains a lovely array of artistic grandeur from modern installations utilizing this preserved space to the well maintained architecture of the mansion and surrounding building. Although the magnificence of the grand home is enticing I’d recommend a visit to the building dotting the perimeter of the property as they contain a rich and important story of those who worked and toiled to build and maintain the estate. Further out you will find the now dilapidated buildings for the craftsman which are truly a window into the methods and resources used to manufacture and create the township at its industrial infancy. Listen to the water run across the weir, enjoy the plentiful grounds to walk along, and take in the once private majesty now available for the public to learn from and appreciate.

What a beautiful park. There are really nice trails. One trail is a floating trail where you can look for wildlife or bring your pole and fish. There are historical buildings and historic signs to read. Nice gardens and the workers are very nice.

A wonderful place to spend an afternoon. There’s walking trails, a huge pond full of blue herons, and docks that stick out into the water. The mansion and gardens are so beautiful too. Bring your camera!

While driving by I noticed what I thought to be a little park. “Boy was I wrong!” This county park is pretty big with a multitude of activities to do. I really enjoyed the well marked trails around Smithville Lake and Smithville Woods.

After checking out a few trails I was able to go on a mini history excursion around the once small village of Smithville. This area was well maintained, offered public restrooms and was full of information provided by large placards placed throughout the park about its history.

I learned that a tour of the Smithville grounds is provided May-October, every Thursday and Sunday, at 1, 2, and 3PM, via a donation.

I truly enjoyed this location and would recommend it to anyone interested in nature or learning about history.
