Small but well kept, this is a delightful little non profit art center on the shore of Lake Merritt.

There's a play room, classrooms, art gallery, Library, animal Discovery room with live animals to experience.

They offer summer camps and after school programs. The activities have all kinds of creative artistic themes like comic book making, woodworking, making a play and many other awesome ideas.

It's centrally located in Oakland with with reasonably good parking around. Highly recommend.

The Junior Center of Art and Science, a quaint and educational center for children. Love Gary the tortoise who roams the premises, all the lizards, snakes, fish and the little house/play area. Located just off the lake view great views. A fun morning out. The staff is sweet and informative.

Excellent venue for young children that love animals. The center keep reptiles and insects, that the kids can pat and hold.

The animal drop in part of the center is free. Also located within the Center for a very small entry fee is a playroom designed for kids up to kindergarten age. I was dubious that it would keep my 4 year old entertained, but stand corrected since he happily played within the playroom for more than 2 hours there.

The center hold various workshops which we have not yet been to, but after visiting, it is now on our list of things to do.

The Centre is also located next to the Rotary Nature Museum (free), bird wildlife sanctuary and playground making it an excellent and enconimical destination for young animal lovers.

Playspace and animal room for the littles! Great free indoor play place and animal room. Also has after school and camp programs that my kids are too small for. What a nice community resource!
