I attended a training with Moving Forward Psychological Institute as a new MSW graduate. Paul taught me how to engage with monolingual and limited English speaking Vietnamese clients. First and foremost, how taught me how to maintain hierarchical respect and a professional relationship with my clients through the artful use of the Vietnamese language. He shared insight on how the different waves of Vietnamese refugees/immigrants vary in identities, value systems, and cultural practices based of the region of origin, history of colonization, socioeconomic class, religion, etc.. Even as a Vietnamese-American, I was not aware of the cross-cultural identities that make each client unique. I am much more culturally competent and equipped to work with monolingual and limited English speaking Vietnamese clients because Paul gave me the basic tools to connect, build rapport, and empower my clients through their healing process. Thank you MFPI! I look forward to future pieces of training and my professional growth.

I attended the API Mental Health Empowerment Conference in Clovis this past November, and found the conference to be well-organized, moving, and inspiring. My colleague and I attended and presented one breakout workshop, and we left the conference feeling truly empowered to make a difference within our community to help de-stigmatize mental health within API populations. Highly recommended for those who serve Asian Pacific Islanders and in the field of human service/ behavioral health.

I attended the Mental Health First Aid training and it was very helpful in improving and teaching me new clinical social work skills. It is especially helpful that the training has a simulation component that allows you the opportunity to practice the skills and is recorded so you can evaluate yourself. Paul is also a really talented and insightful trainer.

I am beyond grateful for the guidance that Viet-CARE has given me, and it’s only been a day! I was feeling hopeless but after a random google search I found Viet-CARE. I gave them a call on Monday and received a call Wednesday. That same Wednesday Paul was able to help connect me to those who could help me that same day. Before speaking with Paul, I was making countless calls, being directed to different organizations without concrete solutions.
