I didnt get to go inside. I passed the location on a field trip with my Geography class for Sierra College.
Cute place and if you take a walk down the road HWY 132 you get to see large rock face of Mariposite with lots of Quartz veins and fault gouge. Found an awesome quartz crystal!

One word: Awesome!
The outside of the building and its surroundings bring you into the atmosphere of the gold rush and the inside of the building just lets you step into history. The 2 wonderful ladies inside where amazing to talk to, they knew a lot about the history of the building and the area and even helped me out with information for the rest of my trip towards Yosemite national park and Vegas. Going to this place is a must when you’re in the area!

Our drive through Mariposa County and Coulterville will be remembered very fondly. The views were stunning and there were hardly any other cars around in early February 2021.
The History Center featured the Whilstling Billy; the black locomotive on my photos. The red locomotive had a sign that said Vacation Rentals. It was unclear if guests might be able to stay in the locomotive itself?

A charming and interesting local history museum! Lots of unique artifacts from the Gold Rush era to modern times. Friendly and knowledgeable docents, no cost of entry, and a lot of info you might not find anywhere else! Definitely worth stopping by if you find yourself travelling through Coulterville, though probably not a bad idea to call about hours ahead of time.
