The chamber of commerce was closed when i visited but the cemetery is small and seemed like it was always open. A couple guys rolled in and cracked a beer at Billy's grave. The other tombstones offer some interesting stories, including how much land Maxwell owned.

This is one of those places you stop just because you happen to be passing by -like the world's largest ball of twine, it's one of those things that make you go, "Huh!". You can probably tell there's not much out there from the photos. A building, a lizard, some dirt and maybe a selfie.

The building was closed because of covid-19 (I'm assuming). If you visit the Billy the kid museum this is a must stop to follow up the trip!

We were driving crosscountry and loved that it was only 4 miles off the main highway. Perfect for a short stop to stretch your legs and see a piece of history.

Was driving through Fort Sumner so went the extra miles to see it. Went ten in morning and were the only ones there. Some reason the fort was not opened. Worth seeing if you happen to be in the area but wouldn't make a special trip.

Serious southwest history here, from the very beginning years to Billy the Kid's death and resting place.

There isn't much at the Old Fort Sumner. The museum has been moved into town. This isn't a much see stop unless you want to see Billy the Kids grave.
