Thanks p-ville golf crew and fellow golfers for a good experience and for presenting us a golf course that's worth playing, AND in town! Also,..I like the driving range and the practice golf putting range out by the main office. A nice warmup before I get serious. (:

Wife and I have had a family membership here for 3 months after relocating to the area.
Had a group of 9 (yes 9) people jump ahead of us because they did not want to wait on first tee. We get jumped every time we play here.
No marshals, no rules, no enforcement.
Mostly younger players that want to smoke their weed and yes, you will smell it, and play their loud music close by when you are teeing off. Absolutely no etiquette. NONE. It’s a fiasco.
Saw 2 people about to throw blows in a fight right outside the clubhouse screaming and threatening for 10 minutes and no one inside did anything.
This is a hillbilly golf course. Take your chances.
Greens are bumpy, fairways have dirt patches, and most do not rake sand traps.
People in office and front desk are nice, however.

Nice course. Great prices! Only issue was they had a tournament, so it was busy as heck! We got there early, but still had to skip multiple holes to get ahead of the tournament...

Course has a lot of potential. The groundskeeping is a bit ragged and you really cannot tell the fairways from the rough. Can be challenging with elevation changes and never really having a flat lie.

Pile of HOT garbage!!! Anyone who has rated this course above one star has either never played golf before or has only ever played at this garbage course.

We were in from out of town and stopped to play 18. We pulled up and saw that the irrigation must have been broken because the “fairways” were almost completely dirt. Where there wasn’t dirt, there dry dead grass or green crabgrass patches. The greens were the length of most course’s first cut rough and, unless I hadn’t seen the lawn mowers, I wouldn’t have believed that this “course” owned any. Also, if you haven’t heard of top dressing, a technique courses use to level fairways and greens, don’t worry because this place hasn’t either. I’ve legitimately driven on smoother jeep trails in the Rocky Mountains than this course.

We had to rent clubs and, while I don’t have exceedingly high expectations on rental sets, the bag I received was of the same caliber as the rest of the course. I’m sure they were older than I am, there were two three irons, two four irons, two drivers, two left handed clubs, no fairway woods and one wedge. After the driving range I had to go ask the clubhouse for different clubs to make a usable set.

While out on the course there was one restroom, after the 7th hole, zero hospitality stations, and no beverage cart. The tee boxes were overgrown and more than one was missing markers. The fairways were so constricted that it was not uncommon to have semi-errant shots from other holes drop close. The fences that are in place to protect the tee boxes are in disrepair.

It is a stretch to call this place a golf course. I would barely qualify this area as a park because parks typically have more grass. The ONLY good thing I can say about this place is that they had a “set” of Junior left handed golf clubs that my son needed to rent to golf. I called every other course in reasonable driving distance and these guys were the only one that had a junior left handed set for rent. However, “set” is a little generous also. They had a left handed driver, hybrid, 9-iron, and putter. We made it work because we had no other choice if we wanted to play.

Remember how we were going to play 18? My all-go no-quit son asked me after six holes if we could stop at 9. That’s never happened before so, Porterville Municipal Golf Course, thank you for killing the golfing spirit of an 8-year-old.

Do NOT waste your time or money at this worthless place. If this was the last place to golf on earth, I would pass and just remember fondly how the game used to be played. Luckily, it’s not. We’ll never be returning to this course to golf and I highly encourage YOU to find somewhere else to golf as well.
