San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas is absolutely stunning! This multi-level botanical park is like a journey around the world with plants from every corner of the globe. The smells are incredible—one moment you’re in a tropical jungle, the next in a peaceful desert. They’ve done an amazing job creating spaces for kids, with plenty of play areas and family-friendly spots. We ended up getting an annual family membership, and I can already tell this is going to be our favorite park. Highly recommend for anyone looking to relax, explore, and enjoy nature!

Go! If you want to be wowed by incredible specimens from a diverse climate then make plans to go. Spring is the best time when everything is blooming and growing. And don’t miss the holiday light show which takes you through the gardens to experience unique light displays, some with musical accompaniment. All well done and worth a visit.

I decided to get in a day of photographing birds and made the drive northern San Diego County. Parking is excellent. The staff goes out of their way to make one feel welcome. The expansive property is well maintained. Signage is plentiful and well- placed. Educational programs, especially for children, abound. If you make the climb to the upper overlook, you will be rewarded with a view of the Pacific Ocean.

We went for the nighttime Light Show and we're not disappointed! Fun and amazing light shows of up to 40 artists complete with music. Harder to read identification signs and tags, but well worth it.

Prepay parking to get in a bit closer, just $15. Two options for walking: no stairs or the steep path; we chose the latter. Restrooms are infrequent, and ladies have lines. The mulled cider was the perfect warm up - not too sweet or overly spiced.

World class botanical garden. Has a particularly kid friendly emphasis with a stunning tree house (illusion completed with ferns, succulents, and banyan tree); mountain river toddler splash zone; model railroad with succulent bonsai; sound play area (natural objects xylophone). Lots of educational signage including medicinal plants and extensive fire smart landscaping examples and signs. Neat art like full size succulent dancers (see photos). Not the largest collection of plant species, but is a ton and the geographic zones it covers are impressive, especially the hundred varieties of bamboo. Surely the best garden in the area.

What a cool place, not to bad not bad at all. Really nice place to relax. The staff were very friendly and the plants were pretty nice too. They didn't even bother ya.
There were no homeless living in the bamboo forest this time, so BIG improvement!

The lightscape every year is absolutely incredible. This year I heard a couple people talk about their disappointment that it was holiday themed. It never is. The showcase is a work of art, and each section of the trail has its own unique perspective. My niece and I have made it our holiday tradition. 10/10 highly recommend.
