Moma is a wonderful museum to visit during a trip to San Francisco. Monthly, they even have free tickets. There are exhibits and activities there to make modern art accessible to the whole family. My favorite room is the Alexander Calder exhibit that is on permanent exhibit. There were activities for my kids to make art. The curators have done a great job of breaking up the flow of the exhibits -- we got to view some art and then stop and play. They clearly understood kids can't focus on just looking at art for too long. To be clear, this is no kid museum there is no touching the artwork, but they do have a number of kids rooms to keep them entertained with activities and projects.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand museum is great, 7 floors with lots of great art! On the other hand you need to buy additional tickets for more "fancy" expositions. This was strange - in NYC MoMA all the most famous works were included and I was blown away with that experience. Here it was nice, I love art so I enjoyed it. But was it spectacular? Definitely not.

An awesome and airy museum in the center of SF and not far from the Union square. You will definitely be enthralled by the seven floors of extraordinary art. Unfortunately, we could not access external terrace to enjoy the city views as it was closed to public on the day we visited. Otherwise worthwhile visiting if you are in the Bay Area.

Spectacular modern art museum, and a must see while in San Francisco. With 7 floors and a great many exhibits, you can easily spend an entire afternoon here. As you would expect, there are many works by famous and well respected artists, including paintings, sculpture, and photography. The Alexander Calder collection is especially noteworthy, as is the substantial photography collection, which is huge. Definitely a world class museum.

Amazing (and large) museum! 7 floors!!! It’s on the higher side of museum to let prices, $30 adult, $23 for students, but the large size makes the price worth it! They also have a select free day, so make a plan to attend during that. There is a small restaurant to grab a bite. The location is great, and the staff are all lovely. I drop one star for the price, but otherwise, amazing.

I took my son and his friend for his 17th birthday. We went about 5 years ago for the Warhol exhibit. We enjoy this place immensely, it is well laid out in a beautiful 7 story building. It features photography, sculpture, mixed media, painting, and video/digital art. It's free on the first Thursday of the month, and kids under 18 get in for free. You do need to download digital tickets for the day you want to visit, even if it's a free ticket. It hasn't felt crowded the 2 times we've been there. We look forward to visiting again!

The Amy Sherald exhibit was very special and moving. I highly recommend getting the special ticket for the additional $12 per person and choosing a time slot. Members are free and only need to choose a time slot. We were told to show up at 12pm for a 12pm time slot because they had a lot of large groups on Saturday. No need to arrive earlier. Amy Sherald is a must see!

Such a gorgeous museum! I loved all the exhibits and they rotate often enough that every 6-9 months there are new pieces to see. The artwork is carefully curated and meaningful with a good mix of fine art and more performative works. Beware of the cafe though, soooo expensive!
