A slice of paradise hidden in the city. This historical farm site dates back to the 1870’s. Free tours anytime on Sundays from 10am-1pm. Beautiful native California plant gardens surround the house and it is the trailhead to the Coast to Crest trail. There is a historical battleground (Mule Hill) that is a short walk from the house with informative panels. You’ll see lots of wildlife in the area too! They offer private tours and event bookings for weddings, birthdays or other gatherings. Definitely check this one out!

I stopped by when they were having their 150th anniversary. They had a short tour of the house and let you check out the other building there (I think the creamery). It was free, which was super awesome of them. The only thing I will forewarn about is if they do tours, be ready to know they do tours. When I got there, I went straight to the house and didn't see signs stating there were tours or which door they started at. I walked in through the unofficial exit and a gentleman let me know that's where the tour ended. And there weren't any signs for when they strted, like 'tours every 5 minutes' or 'on the hour.' When he told me, I kinda felt like the bad guy for not knowing. But the experience as a whole made up for it.

Nice place to see a piece of history and read about the past. Not sure why their sign directs visitors to a trailhead when the path from parking is much more direct.

Does anyone remember when they held a sheepherding class for dogs and handlers here on Saturdays for $10.00 with Terry? The house was fascinating even before they fixed it up, would have been early 80's.

This historical site has been expertly restored and is being maintained by the San Dieguito River Park organization. It's a great example of governments working together.
The docents in each area of the tour were very pleasant and knowledgeable with a nice dose of humor. The history of the homestead and local area is intriguing.
It was a totally pleasant outing for our family.
I highly recommend it.
