Love Teralta Art! Maggie is fantastic, and she makes clay less intimidating. You get to pick what you want to make, and Maggie is there to help you every step of the way.

There are a few ceramic shops to choose from in San Diego but I chose Teralta Art because of their work with migrant communities and students. I grew up as a daughter of Vietnamese Chinese refugees as they were escaping US bombardments. I grew up in San Diego in Clairemont/Kearny Mesa watching all my classmates participate in after school programs that their parents paid for so they could have an outlet. However, my parents had five mouths to feed in addition to their own and so there was no room in the budget for enrichment activities. So it's an honor to make some art in a community center that cares about providing access to enrichment activities. Revolution in joy and art. My first time here was with my husband on a date. They get you started hands-on pretty quickly and support you in whatever piece you want to make. You pick up your pieces in a few weeks after they've glazed and fired them for you. I loved the experience so much I booked a full class of 6 people for my in-laws including a child under ten. Then I came back with a friend. I'll say that the teaching styles do differ between the instructors and I have nothing negative to say about either. Highly recommend taking a class or three here, especially if you're a conscious consumer. Know that your vote with your dollar goes towards something special. And it's also a great opportunity to make gifts for people! (You just sorta have to do more planning to make sure if you get it in time!)

Love all the instructors at Teralta and have come away with some really fun pottery pieces that I get to show friends! I also love that Teralta is a nonprofit and by signing up for wheeltime you are supporting a local charity!

ive come here multiple times for their 1-hr wheel time on sundays. its such an incredibly reasonable price for 1hr which includes wheel time, and you get to make 1 piece and they glaze (you pick the glaze) and fire it for you! sooo great! they also let you pay a little extra to make and process a 2nd piece! its great to support Teralta and you get to have fun while doing it too! so far, i have been 3 times, and i have made espresso cups and small bowls. will be back again soon, im sure

Maggie is a lovely person and this non profit is such a good idea! The classes are well priced (much more accessible than most) and the studio is super cute. Clay is a lot of fun and I encourage you to try it if you can!
