I was surprised to see the number of ongoing classes & events held here as well as a lovely art gallery that has rotating exhibits. You can use an app to tour the house but I highly recommend touring with one of the docents. I did a Saturday tour with Jade and it was terrific -- she was very knowledgeable, had many stories to tell, and was always open to questions. A great look at another time period in Ormand Beach.

The Casements is where once the world's richest man John Davison Rockefeller Sr. lived between 1918 and 1937(less than 2 months away from his 98th birthday).
Mr. Rockefeller was a believer of social Darwinism in business and he deployed many unethical tactics to destroy/buy his rivals, build his oil and steel empire, and he was estimated to have a net worth of 1.4 billion USD upon his death. On the other hand, he was a devout Christian, and philanthropist, he gave a lot of money to the Church, institutes, universities around the world like the University of Chicago, Yale, Peking Union Medical College and many others. The Rockefeller Foundation is still a great name in philanthropy. He was labeled as "Robber baron".
"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Matthew 19:24)
At any rate, I couldn't decide whether John D Rockefeller is in heaven or not. I am fortunate to see this magnificent mansion.

What a beautiful home and knowledgeable volunteers! Unfortunately, we arrived after the last tour of the day, but one of the volunteers still spent about 20 minutes talking to us about Mr. Rockefeller and the interesting history of the house. Then we were free to walk through the first two floors, including many pictures and exhibits. It is amazing to see the photos of the appalling condition of the property when it was acquired by the City of Ormond Beach in 1974, compared to the beautifully restored condition today. The house is lovely and it's clear that the volunteers care for it like it is their own.

Lydia was an amazing tour guide. The Rockefeller and Flagler history was amazing. The location on the river has great views. Free parking in the lot next door. Street parking is also available. The decor of the home was amazing. You can only see half of the second floor and the third floor if you are on the tour. The tour is free but a donation is customary. The house is owned by the city.

Interesting and unusual collection of historical people: Rockefeller, the Boy Scouts and Hungarian folk costumes. Unfortunately, no artifacts from when Rockefeller lived there.
Managed by a dedicated group of local volunteers. Good view back into history.

Our tour guide, Paula, was an excellent presenter at The Casements in showing us the house, explaining its history, and answering our many questions about the Rockefeller family. It is obvious that Paula has done extensive research and reading about the property and its owners and she willingly shares it with visitors. It is a very friendly atmosphere, as well as interesting and educational.
