TheĀ University of Alaska Museum of the NorthĀ is a thriving visitor attraction, a vital serviceĀ of the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and the only research and teaching museum in Alaska.
See Alaska Native cultures, natural wonders, and diverse wildlife. Explore 2,000 years of Alaska art. The museum's exhibits are the best introduction to Alaska’s diverse wildlife, people, and lands. View original installations about Alaska's dinosaurs and the research made possible by our collections.Ā  Experience breathtaking architecture and views of the Alaska Range. Our museum is as unique as the Arctic cultures we celebrate.Ā Movies daily.
Museum Store and CafĆ© on site. Open year-round. The place that's I recommended to visit. Love ā¤ļø this place.

The Alaska Museum of the North is a great place to walk through the natural history of Alaska. From prehistoric, Native cultures and heritage with artifacts and stories. Animal sites and sounds historical and current. Geology and archaeological history. Also a great section of art culture of Alaska’s great preservation.

5 outta 5 stars! If you are in fairbanks this is a must go to stop. Educational/interactive and fun. Many different stations set up for ppl/kids to create/draw. Interactive exhibits including microscopes. I greatly enjoyed this with my kids today and will be back. Nice gift store and coffee shop as well. Must stop if you have a chance to. They also offer military discount and alaska resident discount.

Great place to learn history and stay warm. Loved the movie and all the exhibits. I would plan several hours tops for this activity. There is paid parking, only a couple dollars, coat room, and clean bathrooms.

The University of Alaska Museum of the North in Fairbanks is an incredible place with fascinating exhibits about the history of Fairbanks and Alaska, the lives of Indigenous peoples, and the region’s diverse wildlife, including land and marine animals.

However, our experience was slightly dampened by the film about whales, which felt entirely AI-generated, with an unpleasant voiceover and subpar visuals. It didn’t match the overall quality of the museum.

We were also eager to see the iconic ā€œMagic Busā€ 142 from Into the Wild, which was relocated from the Denali wilderness. Unfortunately, the exhibit was still under preparation and is set to open in 2025. Our kids, inspired by the movie, were really looking forward to seeing it, so it was a bit disappointing that it wasn’t available yet.

Despite these small letdowns, the museum left a very positive impression overall. We definitely plan to return in the future to explore the new exhibit and revisit the amazing displays this museum has to offer!

Museum was interesting, views are great on clear days and there's informative 30 minute movies. They did have technical issues one day with them and another day they were hosting an event and wasn't running them but allowed us to come back another day without paying again to watch them.
