Such an awesome and inclusive pottery studio here in downtown Vallejo . So worth a visit to check it out. The vibe is always chill & fun. Great people all around!
I have taken the hand building classes for a few years but I also take wheel classes there now and I love it. Whitney & Sarah are such great teachers. They have some awesome 1 day classes that are easy and affordable. The variety of different classes is nice because you can get a quick intro to clay, create some art & have a nice little hand made gift in the end. Can’t say enough about the studio and the community that Vallejo Clay creates.

Whitney is an excellent teacher. It is really great when working and having the instructor look at what you are doing and verbalize what you might do to get a better result and when you ask why she can actually answer you!!! Many teacher think that just watching is enough but if that were true we could just watch utube videos!! Thank you Whitney for the wonderful instruction.

I've learned so much at Vallejo Clay Studio! I've created functional pieces as well as whimsical. Whitney Smith has made a space where all levels of skill are welcome. Try out a one day class or sign up for a six week session!

I highly recommend Vallejo Clay Workshop. Whether you don't have any experience with clay (like me), or have dabbled, there is something for everyone. I've taken a couple of the individual 1-day classes and the 6-week classes, and have made some fun and functional wares. And, along the way I have met some really cool people. Whitney, the owner, has 30+ years experience as a ceramicist and is great and helpful instructor.

After taking wheel classes at another studio several years ago, I got reacquainted with clay through Vallejo Clay’s handbuilding classes and am currently enrolled in wheel classes — both have been my favorite part of my week. Whitney is a fantastic teacher who encourages independence and experimentation, welcomes questions, and laughs at her own mistakes so that her students can be free to make mistakes too. If you’ve been clay-curious, looking for a creative outlet, or yearning for a “third place,” this just might be it.

I moved to Vallejo in 2018 and was looking for a fun way to meet people in town and this was the perfect place! Whitney’s classes are great fun and I’ve gotten to learn so much. I’ve met so many people and love the variety of classes I’ve had the chance to take. I’ve learned to make tons of functional pottery in a safe and fun environment. Highly recommend!

We took the animal pots class with Maritza and it was so much fun!! It was my first time making anything out of clay (and I was not good at it), but Maritza made it easy and was super flexible about what we could make. My daughter went rogue and made an alligator pot and it turned out amazing, thanks in part to the extra supports they were nice enough to use in the kiln.

It was a really nice way for my daughter and I to spend time together. We’ll definitely be back!

This is a great community pottery studio with wheel and hand building classes. I’m usually there once a week and I live in OAKLAND!
