It was hard to find a hotel available on short notice, and being July prices were very high everywhere. We selected this hotel as we were hoping for a mini-drive, 2 beds, air conditioning, and clean/secure with ice available for guests. The room was clean and adequate, but the bathroom sink drained very slowly. The hotel is large; the halls were very hot (no AC) but there was AC in the rooms, though it was not possible to adjust the temperature it was cool enough to be comfortable in the room. Comfortable beds/pillows. The lobby and overflow areas by the gift shop were always full of people and multiple tour busses per day stay here. There was adequate parking for our car, but it is a decent walk to some of the rooms here. Hotel is well located with easy access to restaurants, etc.

We stayed here in August 2024 at the end of a Holland America cruise. We were assigned a room in the south tower, and I think that's where things went down hill. It's in desperate need of a renovation. The carpets in the hallway are dingy and dirty. The rooms are dark and a little dated, but our bed was very comfortable and looked clean. The intake vents were coated with dust. The bathroom was just plain ugly. The enamel is peeling off the bottom of the tub, and the grout looks like a kindergartner was in charge (see photos). If you stay here, request the north tower. It looked like it was newer. It was a little disappointing to end the cruise this way, because the prior rooms in Anchorage and Denali were top notch.

We had a different opinion on some of the reviews. We found this hotel to be very nice and the rooms were clean and certainly big enough. The staff was super friendly and helpful and they had a very good restaurant called the Red Lantern. On a less positive side there is not a lot to do around the hotel and the city is very small but that did not bother us as we were only there for the night. We did walk down the street a few blocks and never felt threatened or we were unsafe in any way.

The hotel has a new and an old wing. Although we requested the new wing prior to arrival, our room was in the old wing. Dirty carpets, no room cleaning. |Staff at front desk were polite and knowledgeable.|Breakfast buffet was terrible. Save your money. We were booked here through Holland America Cruise, which seems to own the hotel. Only good thing was luggage transportation went very smoothly.

The room was huge, mini kitchen, office area and a king size bed, large bathroom. Two tvs, we went in summer and we had the air on but It wasn't working as quickly as we would like. The two restaurants were great, good food, everyone we spoke with as part of the staff were friendly. There are not any good views on first floor, we had a view of a parking lot. But if you go to the top floor you can see the mountains. Lots of local art and a gift shop. I would come back.

All the staff was nice and helpful, so we didn’t see any of the issues others did there. ||The rooms are old, but only the bathroom looked unclean from the grout being grody. The beds were clean and comfortable. ||Writing this review specifically to talk about the city. It is sketchy if you are a single female or small group of women. It should be fine in a larger group, but be careful walking around if not. We had cars slow down, turn around, weird dudes stare at us. We didn’t know anything about Fairbanks, walked around and felt on edge, then got home and looked at the crime statistics. ||It is a hard u-turn from the rest of the cruise, so try to think of it just as an airport hotel and not part of your trip. And keep an eye out if you leave the hotel.

Disassociate for 24 hours and you’ll be fine.
— after an incredibly luxurious experience on a HAL cruise followed by an amazing night at the chalet in Denali you’re dropped off at the Westmark. The whole experience feels like something out of weird movie. To HAL’s credit they attempted to make an old & dated hotel nice. But it’s like putting lipstick on a pig. The hotel is old in need of a revamp. Maybe demolition? Everyone is coming in for their cruise or about to leave. I felt bad for the people starting the cruise. It must have given a horrible first impression. As we were ending it, we didn’t much care. Just left a sour end to an incredible trip.

Fairbanks was the least desirable of cities we visited. It’s important to note that my sister and I I felt uneasy walking around at night by ourselves. Something to keep in mind.

This was my second stay at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and it was even better than the first. I requested a top floor room in the newer building of the hotel, which had incredible views and was very quiet. I had a problem with the room's air conditioner, which was promptly solved by a maintenance person. Brit and the front desk staff were friendly and responsive during my stay. I will visit this hotel again in the future.
