I recently had the pleasure of taking the Intro to Throwing class at Sunset Clay House (Judah location), and it was truly an exceptional experience. As a complete newbie to pottery, I couldn't have asked for a better introduction.

The instructor I had was very knowledgeable, quick to offer guidance, and always checked in to see if the class had any questions.

One standout feature of Sunset Clay House is the convenience it offers. They provide full access to all the studio's resources, from tools to your first 25lbs of clay, right at your fingertips. This convenience enriches the learning experience and ensures you have everything you need to nurture your passion for pottery.

If you're considering starting your pottery journey, I wholeheartedly recommend Sunset Clay House. It's a place where you'll receive excellent instruction, find all the tools you need, and be welcomed into a supportive community. Don't hesitate to embark on your creative journey here; you won't be disappointed!

Highly recommend! First time doing ceramics and couldn’t ask for a better experience. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. I took the beginner course and am surprised by how much we learned in one month. Thank you!

We took a class here. Such a nice space!

Easy to get parking for the evening classes, close to transit as well.

I was a first time / never had touched the wheel before and really learned a lot. Staff was excellent and helpful (shout out Liz) and the studio was tidy and warm. Lots of beautiful plants.

I saw many members doing cool things and felt welcomed while I learned. Got to make a full bag of clay over a month of the wheel, but was allowed to explore other ways to build as well.

Getting a class here is high demand, but if you can, it's worth the time!

The 4 week intro to throwing class has been a great experience. The instructor was super knowledgeable and we went in a pace that allowed me to create several nice pieces. Having access to the fully stocked studio in between classes was a nice bonus, and I look forward to continuing on as a member.

Highly recommend to anyone who is looking to join! A friend of mine recommended Richmond Clay House to me as she had previously taken a course at Richmond Clay House. However, when I googled, I couldn't remember the name and searched "SF Clay House" and Sunset Clay House popped up first. My understanding is that they are sister locations. I completed a Four-Week Intro to Throwing class (Judah location) with instructor Shannon and a 1 week fill-in with instructor Tori. Both instructors were very patient and thorough with their teaching styles and ensured all students received as needed 1:1 time in the class. Due to my work schedule, I wasn't able to fully take advantage of the full access studio during the month of my class (I was only able to come in on 1 day that was not my class day). However, I liked that I was welcome to come in any day (even holidays!) during the month of my class. I also liked that there was opportunity to join as a member (which I did). In my experience thus far, everyone in the studio has been very kind and instructors, members, and students are very respectful of the studio space and of each other. Living on a nonprofit salary, I can confidently state that both the class option and the membership are very well priced.

I was a member for about 3 months or more, and I'm hoping to return soon. I didn't have the pleasure of taking a class, but I know Liz and the other instructors would be great to learn from. I hope to return soon and also find time for an advanced class or two. I had a great experience using the studio. Everything is laid back and friendly. Great space, easy access. Can't wait to get back.
