Two night stay here. Despite some of the negative reviews, I've stayed in worse places and would probably come back.

Pros:
Affordable. Rooms with balconies that offer good views. Close to everything in Downtown Anchorage, lot of good restaurant/breweries in walking distance.

Cons:
The building is old so it has a musky smell. My biggest issue is there's not much sound insulation so you'll hear traffic: both cars and ppl. Breakfast is not free ($24/person).

I have to endorse all the other bad reviews of this place in the hope that Holland America will wake up and realize that all the good experiences we had on our cruise will be soured by our last night before leaving for home. This hotel is the absolute pits. We were dropped here after a 5 hour bus ride from Denali, and like everybody else I guess all we wanted to do was to get cleaned up, have something to eat, get a good night's sleep and ship out the following day. Forget that, and disregard the pictures of the hotel on their website. Our room had no fridge, no safe, no microwave, no water glasses, not even a bedside alarm clock. The whole place smelled old and musty and it's noisy. And to make things even worse our bus driver had told us that they had a restaurant and bar so we wouldn't have to go out to eat. WRONG! There's a sign outside the hotel that says "Solstice Bar And Grill", but there is NO bar and NO grill. It only opens for breakfast. So on a cold rainy evening we had no choice but to go out and try to find somewhere to eat within walking distance, and forget that too. The only two decent eateries close by both had wait times of over an hour, so we ended up in a hole in the wall bar that had a food truck.NOT a great way to end our cruise. If you are booked with Holland America and they tell you you are going to have to stay here, tell them a hard NO, and you want to stay a block away in the Captain Cook Hotel, where I think Princess Cruises put their guests and has a far better rating than this run-down place.

Would have rated this property a 0 if that was possible.||Overnight stay between Holland America cruise and Denali National Park. I am stunned/amazed that HAL would place their customers in such a disgusting hotel. Multiple dozens of people arriving at 4pm. Everyone was already checked in and had room keys. Did they open the restaurant for us? No. Light snack, even a cup of coffee? No. (Probably a good thing seeing how dirty the rest of the place was). Went down in the morning to get my wife a latte. I was informed that I could only get one if I paid for the entire buffet breakfast. Explained that I did not want breakfast, only a latte and was sent to a hotel 2 blocks down the road. ( MUCH nicer hotel by the way).||Sliding glass door in our room was broken and would not lock. Screws literally coming through the 1970’s gold wallpaper. I made the mistake of walking to the bathroom with bare feet. Carpet was so filthy that it was sticky. Even the laminated TV channel guide had someone’s greasy fingerprints on it.||We were traveling with dear friends and upon entering the room, they almost got into a fight because she pretty much demanded that they check out and find a decent place to stay. The following morning we took the train to Denali and the only conversation on the train from everyone seated around us was how NASTY the hotel was.||Mad at Holland that they would put us up there. Mad at my travel agent that she didn’t warn us. Apparently there were 2 overflow hotels that people were placed in, including the one I got my wife’s latte. MAKE SURE you get booked in one of the overflow hotels. Westmark Anchorage is NASTY!!

I’m a well travelled millennial, I feel the current state of reviews and average age of clientele here deserves specificity… if you’re looking for a safe, cheap place to crash while you explore Anchorage, you’ll be good here.

We read the reviews and were super anxious as to what we’d be walking into. (We were also off the Holland America cruise line for context)

The room was massive for a cheaper hotel. REMEMBER: this is a cheap hotel y’all! Don’t expect the Ritz or even a Hilton. Don’t expect an ocean view. The room was clean, so were the linens. And the carpets. And towels. And the rock solid bed everyone mentioned? Didn’t meet her. This thing is COMFY. Sure, there’s no mini fridge, but I’m not here long enough to care.

The shower/tub: CLEAN. Also, sure, the water knob was weird to figure out and felt opposite of what it should be, but I fiddled with it and there was perfectly hot water that lasted my entire shower.

The staff has been courteous, the location is fine and walkable to all the things. Please know that this city has a large amount of people experiencing homelessness.

I’m not eating here, so I can’t comment there.

The same people trashing this place in the reviews are also not taking into account the average appearance of their surroundings here, I feel. Don’t be freaked out to stay here. I’d argue that these reviews are reflective of people who stayed on a nice, all-inclusive cruise that are just getting back to reality.

Westmark appears to be very old. The first room we were given had a nonoperational toilet so we were given another room. The air conditioner worked well and there was plenty of space in the room. It was quiet but very dated. The bed was comfortable. It was definitely not worth the over $300 a night price for two adults. We were very tired when we arrived but the hotel check in clerk was not friendly and neither was the security guard. We were not greeted at all. Not even a simple, “Hello.” I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had a fantastic time on our Holland America cruisetour until we got to the Westmark, our last day of vacation (thank goodness). I had read the reviews prior to staying here and, unfortunately, the poor reviews are very accurate. I had asked for a quiet room but instead got a room on the NOISY side of the hotel. The front desk claimed they never received my request. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and I do hope that Holland America will find better accommodations as it's an unacceptable place to stay.

Staying at the Westmark Anchorage was the low point of an absolutely amazing Alaskan vacation. The room was comfortable, great location downtown, the front desk service left a lot to be desired. Our room was on the third floor, facing the street. Traffic and noise from people all night long kept us awake the first two nights. We asked to be moved to a higher floor or a different area of the hotel and we were told that there were no rooms available. We asked for a fan to help with white noise. The first day we were told one was not available. The second day we were told one would be delivered to our room. It was not. Found a white noise app on line and used it. Finally got a fan on day three. We were there for four nights prior to the land portion of our cruise. Booked hotel through Holland America in order to be able to use transfers. The hotel is full every night with cruise line business. The front desk does not have to go above and beyond to keep guests comfortable/happy.

Hotel staff were useless and provided No service at any point in our 2 night stay.
Our room was not cleaned and when we asked at reception the girl said "let know if it's not done tomorrow"
Asked for clean towels and same girl on reception said "come done and collect them if you want"
Drink machines on all floors were empty? Reception girl said she couldn't do anything about it!
The owners of this hotel need to sack all their management and reception staff because we will never use or recommend the facility again! We are traveling on Holland America cruise tour and if this is their idea of a good hotel? They need to review their stadards!
